Printing and Preparation – DeSoto NWR Art Fair

Photograph - A Never Summer Evening

I’ve been a bit absent since I’ve been preparing for the DeSoto Art Fair being held this weekend at DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Missouri Valley, Iowa. I am very excited this year as I am expanding the prints that are available and working with some new panelling which should up the presentation values. If you get a chance to stop by, please say “Hi!”.

I would also like to thank Mrs. Waldron’s Second Period class at Andersen Middle School for letting me be a guest career speaker yesterday. It seems there are a few middle-schoolers that want to be photographers, which is great! I look forward to seeing some new faces in a few years in the photography world.

2010 Fall in Nebraska – Day 5: Last Leaf

Photograph - Last Leaf

Recently, my 135 f/2 lens has been used exclusively for portrait work. I really wanted to see what I could do with it in nature because this is both extremely sharp and has great bokeh. When I cam across this leaf in the browning grass, the lens was the perfect focal length for this scene, and what can I say, I’m a sucker for autumn leafscapes.

Today’s images come from an orchard in Cass County, Nebraska. I loved the idea of a single white pumpkin amongst the large orange pumpkins, signifying proud individuality.

2010 Fall in Nebraska – Day 3: Katydid

After a short unintended break, I return today to finish up my week of “Fall in Nebraska”.  Today’s image of a Katydid comes from Arbor Day Lodge State Park.  While not normally an insect photographer, I loved the juxtaposition of the green on the vibrant yellow leafs so I had to get in close and capture it!

2010 Fall in Nebraska – Day 1: Autumn Apple

Photograph - Autumn Apple

Now that Halloween has come and gone and most of the leaves have flown from the branches, this week brings 5 images that I captured during the fall in Nebraska, a favorite time of year for me. Today’s image comes from Arbor Day Lodge State Park in Nebraska City. Arbor Day was started in Nebraska City in 1872 as the precursor to Earth Day. It is still celebrated in April by planting trees. The state park contains a large variety of trees that had been planted over time and is a joy to visit in the fall as different colors appear at different times. Nebraska City is also known for Apple Orchards and Pumpkin Patches so there are always some delicious cider, turnovers, and pie to be had. Yum!
